- Which is the Mother House?
- The Grande Chartreuse is the Mother House, where in 1084 St. Bruno founded the first of our monasteries which is we hold for it a special sentiment of respect and veneration.
- Where is it?
- It is in a narrow and secluded valley of the French Alps, about 17 miles from Grenoble. The climate is typical of the High Alps: long winters with heavy snowfalls and short summers with brisk temperatures.
The Prior of the Grande Chartreuse, called “Reverend Father”, is the Minister General of the whole Order. It is in the Grande Chartreuse where, every two years, the General Chapter is held.
